Totally Safe Moon Project Upgrades and Tools Guide
Updated ยท 4 min read
In Totally Safe Moon Project you earn points (P) every time the tower reaches a height goal, then spend them at the Upgrades computer next to your garage. The most important purchase is the Gravity Gun, whose level decides how heavy an object you can lift. The terminal also sells disposable items like Oxygen Totems and ziplines, and offers an "Unlock Random" option, while supply drones around the tower drop new tools such as the umbrella, fireworks gun and grappling hook.
The Steam description promises exactly this loop: "As you climb higher, you earn rewards like new abilities, items, or points used to upgrade your gear. The higher you go, the crazier skills you get." Here is how it works in practice, based on the official screenshots and several complete runs on YouTube.
How points work
- Your height meter shows the Next Goal. Reaching it pays points and shows a "You can upgrade!" notice.
- In recorded runs the first goal (10 m) paid 100 P, and later goals paid more (Geeky Pastimes' group mentions 200 points at a later goal).
- Points are spent at the Upgrades computer, which is inside the starting garage beside the exit. You have to physically go back down to use it, which is why ziplines and the umbrella matter so much.
Gravity Gun upgrades
Your Gravity Gun starts weak. Heavy props show as too heavy until you upgrade it. Recorded examples:
- At the start you can move fence panels, boxes, small props and people, but buses and the Blessed Statue are too heavy.
- After an upgrade or two, players lift cars, then buses and trucks, then whole houses.
- Late game you can lift the heaviest object in the game, a windmill (achievement: I'm Your Biggest Fan), and the laser in the garage.
| Upgrade | Cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| LVL 0 โ LVL 1 | 100 P | Recorded runs (RealOutlawNico: "if we had 100 points, we could upgrade the gravity gun") |
| LVL 2 โ LVL 3 | 200 P | Official Steam screenshot of the Upgrades menu |
| Maximum level | Not confirmed | We have not verified the max level or its cost with two sources |

Selecting your tools
The same menu has a Select your Tools panel on the right with a row of equipped slots and a grid of locked tools. In the official screenshot the equipped tools are the Gravity Gun, a magnet and a third gadget, with empty slots for more. Your equipped tools appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen with number keys to switch between them.
Unlock Random
Besides direct purchases, the terminal offers Unlock Random, which gives you a random new tool. Ultimate TnT's group used it to unlock their next tool level. It is a gamble: you might get something useful like the umbrella, or a joke item.
Disposable items
Some purchases are single-use items you place in the world:
- Oxygen Totem โ unlocked when an oxygen bar appears high above the town ("Oxygen totems unlocked"). Place one on a wide platform and stand next to it to refill your oxygen. Groups that finished bought many of them; one player had 15 before the final climb.
- Zipline โ connects two points so you can ride up or down the tower fast. Players called ziplines "the game changer": they make trips back to the Upgrades computer far quicker, and you can even zipline while holding a house.
Tools you can unlock
Drones fly in around new height goals. Shoot one down or break the crate it carries and you get a "New tool unlocked" message (Unlock Random at the terminal is the other way). Tools we have seen in at least two recorded runs or official material:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Umbrella | Slows your fall so you can glide; the most important safety tool, and the easiest way to get the Airborne and I'm flying achievements |
| Fireworks gun | Shoots fireworks; works against UFOs, and can also blast you or your friends off the tower |
| Grappling hook | Pulls you towards what you aim at; groups used it to climb the final stretch to the Moon |
| Goo gun | Fires sticky goo |
| Magnet | Pulls objects (and players) towards you |
| Trampoline | A placeable trampoline; bouncing on it unlocks Bounce and Super Bounce |
| Speed totem | A purple totem players place on the tower; it boosts your speed, even in the air, which made one player over-jump |
| Rubber chicken / rubber duck | Joke items. Yes, really |
Players also mention a "portal gun" in one video, but we could not confirm it from a second source.
Which upgrades matter most?
- Gravity Gun levels, every time you can afford one. Bigger objects mean fewer pieces per metre.
- Ziplines once the tower is tall, so you are not walking all the way back to the garage.
- Oxygen Totems before the final ascent. See the walkthrough.
- Keep the umbrella equipped. If you die from a fall, you respawn at the bottom.
